With 20 kilometres of cross-country trails, cross-country skiing in Verbier is truly a "high-altitude" experience. The main trail between Les Ruinettes and La Chaux lies at an impressive altitude of 2,300 metres and offers a perfect backdrop against the Combins massif. The entire network of trails is perfectly groomed for both classic and skating styles. Separate circuits are also being created for ambitious cross-country skiers.

Starting from the Les Ruinettes cable car station, for example, a red trail covers 1.4 km with a 45-metre climb for advanced skiers, whilst the black trail over the same distance involves a substantial 112-metre climb. You can find suitable cross-country skiing equipment at the local sports shops in Verbier, which have their own hire outlets. The local ski schools help beginners get out onto the trails using the correct technique.
