Runding
The charming village of Runding lies at an altitude of approx. 484 metres in the front Bavarian Forest and offers above all relaxation in a magnificent landscape. Situated in the middle of snow-covered forests, Runding offers marvellous views of winter valleys thanks to its slightly rising altitude. In addition to skiing, snow hikes or a visit to the Runding castle ruins promise variety. Formerly the largest castle complex in the Bavarian Forest, it had a total built-up area of approx. 15,000 m² including the outer bailey with its gatehouse and granary. The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km². Besides of the Alpine region, this region is also known for its affinity to winter sports. Families in particular will find exactly what they are looking for here. Those who prefer not to explore the Bavarian Forest on skis can also go on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. The lovely castles and monasteries of the Bavarian Forest are definitively worth while a visit.
