Ski area Schmittenhöhe - Zell am See
In Zell am See and Kaprun, you have access to 138 kilometres of piste and over 51 modern lift systems in the two ski areas of Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe as well as in the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, which extends up to 3.029 m above sea level.
From Zell am See, you can quickly reach the Schmittenhöhe ski area (2,000 m) with the CityXpress, the TrassXpress or the Schmittenhöhenbahn, which offers descents of all levels of difficulty. Advanced skiers can try their hand at the four-kilometre-long Trass descent, which is considered the most difficult in the entire ski area and one of the steepest in the entire Salzburger Land region.
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area and the Maiskogel family ski area offer 61 km of mostly blue and red pistes for beginners and leisure skiers. Wide carving pistes and long, sporty descents such as the five-kilometre-long piste from the Gletscherjet 4 mountain station make skiers' hearts beat faster. If you are looking for the ultimate adrenaline kick, the Black Mamba with a decline of up to 63 per cent is just the thing for you. From Kaprun, you can reach the glacier with the Gletscherjet and the Panoramabahn or directly from the town centre with the MK Maiskogelbahn and the 3K K-onnection. The latter is one of the most modern and energy-efficient cable cars in the world and was built in 2019.
The Maiskogel ski area, with its large proportion of wide and blue pistes, is particularly suitable for families and leisure skiers. The Almbahn mountain station is also home to the longest descent in the ski region at around 7 kilometres.
Each of the three ski areas has its own fun park with tables, slides and jumps. Freeriders will also find plenty of opportunities. A total of five freeride routes and a comprehensive information system with infobase and info points are available. On the Schmittenhöhe, for example, you can let off steam on the open ski area below the Sonnkogelbahn cable car.
The ski areas around Zell am See and Kaprun offer free Wi-Fi at various hotspots throughout the ski area as a special service. You can easily access the Wi-Fi network and surf the internet, download the latest snow reports or post pictures!
Since December 2019, the Schmittenhöhe has been connected to the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The brand-new zellamseeXpress runs from Viehhofen in the Glemmtal valley. Six cabins are equipped with a jukebox to which you can connect your music. A ski bus also runs between Viehhofen and Vorderglemm.
Night skiing Schmittenhöhe - Zell am See
The Schmittenhöhe ski area is one of the ski areas in Austria where you can also ski at night. The night skiing area is located in Zell am See at the Ebenbergbahn cable car. The cable car closes earlier on night skiing days. Every Tuesday and Thursday, winter sports enthusiasts can ski at night from 17:00 to 20:30 on the 1.5 km long, floodlit "Nightslope" piste. This gives you a fascinating view of the illuminated village in the valley. Holders of a valid multi-day ski pass can take part in night skiing free of charge. If you don't have a valid lift pass, you can purchase a lift ticket for night skiing on site.Après ski Schmittenhöhe - Zell am See

Numerous other activities such as tobogganing (day and night), ice skating, cross-country skiing or a visit to the adventure bath with sauna complete the wide range on offer. If you want to fly high, you can try a parachute jump, glide over the region in a hang glider or enjoy the view in a glider. A stroll through the pedestrianised zone with its shops and cafés also offers plenty of variety.
Snowpark Schmittenhöhe - Zell am See: Kitzsteinhorn, Schmitten fun park & Schmidolin's dragon park
The three ski areas offer a wide range of freestyle options. The first address is the Kitzsteinhorn, as four varied areas await adrenaline junkies and freestyle fans in the Kitzsteinhorn snowpark.
In the "Easy Park", kids and beginners can get their first taste of freestyle and advanced riders can improve their skills. There is a rainbow box, a waves box, a down rail and three kickers, among other things. In the "Central Park" and "South Central Park", pros and advanced riders will have a great time. 9 m barrier, various rails and kickers (5 - 13 m) as well as a knuckle leave nothing to be desired. At the very top, at an altitude of 2,900 m, there is also the "Glacier Park", which is only open in autumn and spring. In addition to the snowparks, there is also an Eagle Line with obstacles for beginners and experts and, as an absolute highlight, the 150 m long and 6.5 m high SuperPipe - Austria's largest half-pipe.
Further action can be found in the "Schmitten" fun park on the Schmittenhöhe. The park offers obstacles such as rails, boxes and kickers and is primarily intended for beginners and advanced riders. The "Schmitten XXL", a 1,300 metre long fun slope with a wave track, jumps, tunnels etc., also promises fun.
Finally, another park is primarily intended for families with children: "Schmidolin's Dragon Park" offers children the best conditions to take their first steps in freestyle with wave tracks and small ramps. Another highlight is the Kidsslope on the Glocknerwiese.
