Ski area Hinterstoder - Höss
The local ski area of Hinterstoder is the "Hinterstoder Höss" on the Hutterer Höss (1,858 m). There are 40 km of groomed pistes and 13 lifts for all abilities. The reliability of snow is ensured by over 290 snow cannons, which can make artificial snow on up to 90 per cent of the pistes. From the valley near Hinterstoder, the 10-seater "Hössbahn" gondola lift, newly built in 2022, floats up to the sunny "Hutterer Böden" plateau, which extends to an altitude of around 1,300 metres. The 6-seater Höss Express continues up to the predominantly intermediate panoramic descent. The highest point in the ski area is on the Schafkogel at 2,000 metres. Only blue pistes branch off here, with numerous red pistes further down. The "Sunny's Kidspark" is the ideal practice area for ski beginners, while small children are lovingly looked after in the "Dwarf's Nest" at the middle station. Highlights include the "Hannes Trinkl" World Cup descent, which leads down to the valley. In February 2020, the FIS Ski World Cup in Super-G as well as the giant slalom and the men's combined ski race took place on the Trinkl piste. A speed measurement course and a SnowTrail adventure course are available for special skiing experiences. Snowboarders can let off steam in the fun park and freeriders will find a challenging ski route.
The ski area on the Wurzeralm offers a further 22 kilometres of piste and seven lifts. Here, the fastest funicular in Europe takes winter sports enthusiasts up to the Alm at 1,400 metres in just seven minutes. The highest point in the ski area is the Frauenkar at 1,870 metres. From the mountain station, there is a fantastic view of the surrounding two-thousand metre peaks as well as a descent on challenging red pistes. Further down, the blue pistes dominate. A balanced range of easy and intermediate pistes, plenty of artificial snow-making facilities, two descents to the valley and a Sunny Kids Park for young skiers offer everything a skier's heart desires on the Wurzeralm.
